Cleveland Indians overthrow Oakland Athletics 9-2 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians defeated the Oakland Athletics 9-2 in the fourth game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 9 at Progressive Field in Cleveland. With this particular win, the Indians sweep the series 4-0.
This is a big moment for the Indians as they defeated the Athletics with quite ease early in the first half of 2013 Major League Baseball season. They not only defeated the Athletics but they defeated them with great offensive force.
“Our starting pitching is giving us a chance to win," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "We have a very good bullpen. We're playing well defensively. A lot of guys are contributing offensively. That's a good way to play baseball."
"They're playing great and can't do anything wrong and we're struggling," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "That's what happens. What happened last night shouldn't affect today. They just beat us."
Indians entire roster played wonderfully and won with style. Their batters and at the same time pitchers wonderfully and gave no chance to their opponents during the entire game. Indians upfront batters scored on consistent bases while their pitchers pitched
in right areas.
Athletics on the other hand, played quite poorly and lost bitterly in the end. Their batters and especially pitchers could not just play their natural game and lost the game showing no fighting spirit.
"I'm not thinking about last year or what happened before that," Kazmir said. "I'm looking ahead. I'm throwing the ball well right now. I'm feeling better every time out."
Starter Bartolo Colon pitched four innings and allowed six runs and eight hits. He allowed six earned runs and struck out four. He also received two big homers as his ERA rose to 4.57.
Relief pitcher Evan Scriber pitched three innings and received three hits and allowed three runs. He also allowed six earned runs and received one homer on 5.30 ERA.
On the other hand, the Indians showed true spirit and never allowed any big loop holes. Scott Kazmir started the game for the Indians and played superbly during the entire game. He pitched six solid innings and allowed only one run on five hits. He struck
out ten and remained consistent on 4.87.
