Cleveland Indians’ pitcher Hector Rondon out for at-least one year – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians’ right hand pitcher Hector Rondon is now designated for assignment after suffering a right elbow injury last month which has also cost him a clear spot in the 40 man roster in the next Major League Baseball season.
The club’s recent signing of Grady Sizemore will cover the opening for Rondon in 2012. The Indians’ general manager Chris Antonetti said on Tuesday and explained about the latest development of Rondon’s injury and his importance.
Antonetti said, “We're hopeful that he'll be able to pitch at some point next year, but we're not certain exactly the time frame for recovery. We're hopeful it's six to nine months. Right now, it's probably too early to assess that, I think we need to see
how he progresses through the rehab process and then determine what's in his best interest from there.”
The Indians are doing everything to show good results in the 2012 but due to this latest news of Rondon’s absence from the baseball field for at-least a year, they are certainly facing little complexities and not sure how the team will cope with it in the
next seasons.
Rondon, who returned last year in the Indians’ affiliates for Class-A Mahoning Valley, is considered one of the best prospects in the recent era for the Indians. In 2011, playing few games in the regular season, he went to attend the Winter League in his
native country of Venezuela.
Playing in Class-A Kinston to Triple-A Columbus in 2008-09, Rondon performed brilliantly and combined with 22-16 along with a 3.49 ERA and 282 strike-outs in over 291 innings. His thrilling performance gave him instant fame in the baseball circles and huge
recognition from many pundits of the game. These stats show a tremendous career ahead of him but this recent injury has barred Rondon for playing at-least for the next twelve months.
Earlier, the Indians’ management also showed little disappointment as the arrival of Grady Sizemore, who will be filling-out Rondon’s place, has given the Indians a slight boost in their rebuilding process.
