Cleveland Indians’ pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez receives five game suspension – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians' starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez has received five-game suspension by the Major League authorities for deliberately hitting Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in an exhibition game on Sunday.
Jim Tracy, the Rockies' manager has earlier took the matter with harsh words sending a message to former Colorado man Jimenez as he now has lost all the respect and will remain in the bad books’ of his.
Tracy said, “I have one comment about it, then I want to leave it alone. The professionalism and the integrity of the game is very, very important to me. I am a big believer in right is right and wrong is wrong. And that was wrong yesterday. To see Major League Baseball react to the situation in the manner in which it did, it just fortifies the importance of the professionalism and integrity of the game.”
The victim of Jimenez’s fast ball, Tulowitzki later also explained and told reporters about his current condition especially regarding his injured sore elbow. He said, "It's a little sore, but I am going to be fine. I have been hit by pitches before; my view on what happened hasn't changed.”
Former Rockies pitcher, who was traded into the Indians in 2011, is considerably a good player and has been playing in the big league for the past six years.
However, the latest incident has damaged his credibility and now placed him in a very narrow situation where everybody is criticising his late act of deliberately hitting Tulowitzki.
Experts and some inside MLB sources are telling in the media about this whole hitting controversy is linked with Jimenez’s and Tulowitzki’s conflict on contract extension with the Rockies when both were in the same roster two years back.
On contrary to Jimenez’s hitting incident, this is quite a shameful thing in itself. The professional players, who represent each and every franchise, should not be doing this entire and somewhat wild act which ultimately threatens the whole franchise’s credibility. Suspending Jimenez for five-game on the other hand, gives a slight satisfaction to all the members of MLB who make sure the discipline should be uphold in the League.
