Cleveland Indians’ pitchers facing troubles in Spring Training – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians’ management was happy when they went into the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training, but recent reports in the media are giving a total different reaction of their confidence and self assurance.
Not only the Indians’ are not feeling comfortable in this year’s Spring Training, but their pitchers are facing several technical troubles as well.
Some inside sources claim that the Indians’ pitchers are taking too easy these Spring Training games and not throwing with full force. Last game, against the Texas Rangers, in which their pitchers were disorganised in several ways, the Cleveland Indians were hit eight runs by inexperienced Rangers’ hitters.
For some Indians, this late defeat by the Rangers’ was alarming. They were literally shocked and came out in the media criticising the pitching coaching staff as well as the players who are not taking seriously these important practice games.
The Indians’ manager Manny Acta later also spoke to the media and tried to explain the situation. He talked about briefly about the several pitchers, who at the moment are doing slight less perfect job while he also hoped for the better future.
Acta said explaining, “Tomlin wasn’t very sharp today. His pitches were flat, and he wasn’t able to put hitters away. On the positive side, Gomez continues to throw very well, and he has good composure, He’s maturing pretty fast. He knows he is competing for the fifth spot, and in all of his outings, he’s come in during the middle innings, and it hasn’t bothered him.”
He added, “Gomez is throwing the ball the best of any of those guys. It’s not hurting his chances. That’s for sure. I’m not going to make excuses for these guys [who already have jobs].”
According to Acta’s statement, this is pretty certain that Indians’ pitchers, at the moment, are taking things easy, without knowing the fact as how difficult the next season is going to be for all the Major League franchises. However, if all these Indians’ pitchers did not realise soon about the uncertainties they are going to face next season with huge competition, they will not be going further in the post season.
