Cleveland Indians pound Seattle Mariners 6-0 – MLB news
Cleveland Indians defeated the Seattle Mariners 6-0 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 19 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Indians upfront batting and pitching line-up played wonderfully and outplayed the Mariners in every department.
“We just take it as a challenge, We've got that scrappy-type and gritty-type of team. It may not always be pretty, man, but somehow we're going to find a way to get it done. We just love coming to the ballpark right now,” Indians first baseman Nick Swisher
said.
Indians started very well and finished the game on a high note. Although the Mariners pitchers tried their best to pitch fast but Indians played too much offensive and hit them hard which later proved one of the winning factors for them.
“From the very first pitch of the game he came out firing, He was not only firing, but he was pitching. He was using both sides of the plate. He was using a two-seamer, four-seamer, throwing breaking balls to both sides of the plate. He kept going up, down,
in, out. He worked ahead,” Indians manager Terry Francona said.
Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez started the game for the Seattle Mariners and pitched five innings. He allowed six runs and five earned runs on 2.07 ERA.
Hernandez was replaced by relief pitcher Charlie Furbush as he pitched two solid innings and struck out three on 4.11. Though he did not allow run but it was too late for the Mariners to bounce back in the game.
The Indians’ pitchers however, showed their one of the best games so far and rattled the Mariners with big force. Justin Masterson tossed seven scoreless innings on 2.83. He remained confident on the mound as he struck out eleven Mariners hitters.
Relief pitcher Rich Hill and Closer Joe Smith also played well and finished their spell without allowing any score.
Along with pitchers, the Indians hitters also did well on the plate and scored runs on consistent basis. Centre fielder Michael Bourn scored two runs on two hits on his four at bats. He remained calm on the plate and maintained his slugging percentage of
.487. Second baseman Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley also played a huge role in their team’s win. Combined they scored three runs and four RBIs.
