Cleveland Indians power to 8-4 win over Chicago White Sox – MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians revamped after a battering in the first game to pound the Chicago White Sox 8-4 on Friday, September 9 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois and keep their hopes high in the race for the second position in the American League
Central.
Indians scored two runs in the second inning to roll things for the visitors helped by Lonnie Chisenhall’s two-run homer down right-field. Shelley Duncan circled the bases on this hit to give an early advantage to the Indians. Duncan was rightly promoted
in the line-up and this move paid off for the Indians, who went on to score five runs in the sixth inning to virtually seal the game.
The two-run lead was countered by the White Sox in the third inning when Gordon Beckham and Juan Pierre added a run each to level the score 2-2, the former scoring his run off Pierre’s RBI effort. Pierre went 1-for-4 in the game to add to his ever-growing
tally of career-hits and improve his batting average to .284 for the season.
Jeanmar Gomez won his second-consecutive start for the Indians to improve his win-loss record to 3-2 and make a strong statement for a longer stretch on the mound in the next season. Gomez pitched six innings for just two runs amid six hits to bring his
earned-run average down to 3.95 for the season. He used immense variety in his spell of 91 pitches to disallow additional scoring chances to the home side.
Mark Buehrle did well to restrict the Indians till the fifth inning but a sixth inning onslaught, initiated by Chisenhall, did not allow Chicago to make a comeback in the game. Chisenhall produced another two-run home-run before Lou Marson, Ezequiel Carrera
and Trevor Crowe added a run each to give the Indians an unassailable five-run lead.
Crowe added another in the eighth to extend this lead to six as Beckham and Dayan Viciedo scored in the eighth and ninth inning respectively to reduce the deficit to four-runs. Paul Konerko and Brent Morel failed to produce a single hit in this game, greatly
denting Chicago’s chances in the clash.
