Cleveland Indians prepare appeal on Ubaldo Jimenez's five-game suspension – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians are coming to rescue their five-game suspended pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez and filing an appeal. Jimenez, who deliberately hit Colorado Rockies short-stop Troy Tulowitzki in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon, has been given a potential suspension for five Major League games in the coming season.
Indians' management has completed all the paper work and now ready to file an appeal against this significant five-game suspension which might hurt the Indians early standing.
Indians' manager Manny Acta lately also commented on this incident saying, “It's disappointing, but I'm not surprised, I got the call this morning. I 'm very disappointed at their inconsistency on how they make their decisions. We had a situation in New York last year that I thought was worse than this situation and the guy got fined $750.”
He added, “I just think everyone is relying too much on the comments made in the newspapers, that’s what everyone is going on. [Jimenez] walked five guys. One of them didn't even have to swing the bat and he got walked three times. It's disappointing that they let themselves be swayed by you guys.”
This is clear here as including Acta is very disappointing at the decision by the Major League Baseball authorities. His point of view, saying that both sides are guilty, but to suspend one player is a partial attitude of the League authorities, is somewhat valid, but on the whole Jimenez’s act is more appalling than Tulowitzki’s abuses. Jimenez also stated in the media that Tulowitzki had provoked him to do this act.
The Indians are filing for appeal now as they know first five games are very crucial for them and whenever they started a poorly, they further humiliation of losing games will also come.
The League on the other hand is determined to abject the very idea of maintaining discipline in the organisation. Those who are arguing the suspension do not know as baseball Commissioner Bud Selig was also present when this was happened on the Salt River Fields as he later also saw all the proceedings when MLB suspended Indians’ pitcher.
