Cleveland Indians prepare for next season – MLB Special
The Cleveland Indians seem in a different mood after a weak 2011 Major League Baseball campaign when their management took a drastic decision to upgrade their first base with the inclusion of young players for the 2012 season.
This was certainly a very good decision in order to keep their chances alive to play in the next round of the regular season. The arrival, in-fact re-signing of Grady Sizemore looked the first sign of their preparations but their whole plan is to sign some
more players in the coming days to give additional strength to their current roster.
The Indians’ general manager Chris Antonetti is the first official, who boldly said in the media that they are not hurrying for anything instead are making a viable plan for the future which will certainly bring a positive change in the Indians roster next
season.
Antonetti said, “There's still a lot of offseason left, there’s still a lot of time before Opening Day It's very difficult to handicap the two different avenues, and we’ve been engaged in both. We've certainly had substantive conversations with free agents,
as well as laid the groundwork for some potential trades. Now, which direction we end up going, whether not those will actually get done, I don't have a great sense.”
The Indians’ GM was very objective when he used his words for a potential deal with any young player but overall his comments in the media add weight and that is the reason why he has given extra duty of finding some good players by the Indians’ owners.
While discussing the financial resources of the Indians, the GM Antonetti remained silent and only talked about the payroll figure that was huge in the 2011 but hoped that figure will come down soon.
The Indians, who have recently solved the issue of Grady Sizemore, also signed another player Derek Lowe from the Atlanta Braves. This is a good sign that the Indians are not only preparing for the future but also making adjustments for next year.
Recently, GM Antonetti and some other officials stated in the media that the Indians are now ready to do some trade as well. This announcement directly goes to the very need of trading some experienced players for bringing younger ones into the roster.
The Indians are all set to rotate, Justin Masterson, Ubaldo Jimenez, Fausto Carmona, Josh Tomlin and Derek Lowe while starting with Michael Brantley, Grady Sizemore, Shin-Soo Choo, Travis Hafner, Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana. The
Indians’ young shortstops Jason Kipnis, Lonnie Chisenhall and Chris Perez are also looking forward as their own game plan is ready to give a more thrilling start to their franchise.
Another plan, which has yet to be revealed that the Indians are now planning a more offensive strategy to include some experienced minor league players with the mix of new players. The approach is quite decent but and adding more depth in their rotation,
bullpen and behind the plate, will certainly create many positive results next season. It will be interesting to see the impact that these changes will have on the Indians during the 2012 season.
