Cleveland Indians’ prospect Russ Canzler optimistic to play in big league – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians’ prospect Russ Canzler is currently working hard to play in the Majors.
Formerly with Tampa Bay Rays, he has also won International League MVP in 2011 and is a very talented player who knows his game well.
He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2004 but in 2011, he was traded to Rays while he made his arrival in the Cleveland Indians roster in 2012 and is now expecting a Major League stint.
Currently playing in Minor League Columbus Clippers, Canzler has been performing with huge energy. Earlier Clippers’ manager Mike Sarbaugh has also appreciated Canzler and somewhat hinted in the media that the senior Cleveland team now needs his services.
He is a good player and soon the Indians will realise that Canzler’s play can contribute immensely to the Indians.
Canzler recently said in the media regarding his playing chances in the Major League, "[Sarbaugh] said, 'I can see you grinding the bat up there. It goes back to being 12 years old and trying to relax as best you can. He wanted me to take those couple of
days, calm down and get away from the game a little. I didn't separate myself, I fizzled out near the end of camp. ...”
Later Indians assistant general manager Mike Chernoff said for Canzler, "He has put himself in a place to be considered if we have a need, He has power, but he uses the middle of the field well. He can find the gaps and hit a lot of doubles."
Recently some experts have also told the media that Canzler has become quite mature to play in the Major League.
His game has also improved and at the same time Indians are now potentially in the post season race.
They need to finish on top and get at least .600 winning percentage to qualify for the post season.
The White Sox are sitting on top and giving them hard competition with 47-38 win-loss and .553 winning percentage while the Indians are behind one place in the American League Central with 44-41 win-loss and .518 winning percentage.
It will be interesting to see if Canzler gets a shot with the Indians in the Major Leagues and if he can make a positive impact for the team.
