Question:

Cleveland Indians question?

What is worse:

1) The team refusing to pay a decent salary to Thome - saying they were going "young", then painting him as a bad guy for leaving.

2) Trading away 1/3 of their top players - giving up with seemingly no direction for the future.

  1. 1 is worst.

2 Happened because they are free agents going away anyways. 1 still bothers me. Thome was "let to" after they lowballed him, as a final offer! So they make him look bad for saying he wanted to stay. But he would have had to stay for an amount the players association would have blasted him for. So I just don't get why the Indians fans don't get this.

  2. None of them are bad. Both had to be done, but at the end of the year they still have the oppurtunity to get Casey Blake and Paul Byrd back because they r both free agents at the end of the year.

  3. Thome would look good in a Twins uniform for next season, but I doubt the White Sox would let him come here..

I say scenario 2: I lived through that in the mid to late 1990's with the Twins, now look where they are after there trip through the wilderness.

Just be thankful you aren't a Pittsburgh Pirate fan, the taxpayers ponied up the money for PNC Park and yet they always trade away there best players.

  4. Cleveland won't sign its better players, which is too bad. They have a core to compete for the next 5-7 years, but they let their best pitcher go. Hard to figure how they plan to win. They should be violated, right, Cleveland Rocks?

  5. The Cleveland Indians are just CHEAP! They are always turning out the best players and always refusing to PAY them so they trade them to other teams. Look even Tampa has started paying its best players so that they don't lose them.

  6. Trading away 1/3 of their top players was pretty awful, but they do need to rebuild.  They might demote Pronk if he doesn't get better.

  7. I think that they are doing a great job right now....you knew they wouldn't resign C.C. for the money he wanted and he was terrible in the playoffs and had a shaky start to the season....also Blake is gone but they can get him back and they also got good prospects for him...and if you say they're cheap and don't lock players up...what about Sizemore...probably the best Center Fielder in the league...he's locked up...I guarantee they will never let him go anywhere...trust me Shapiro knows what he is doing he's one of the best general managers in the league and spends his money well...

about the Thome thing...Thome said he would stay in Cleveland forever cause he didn't care about the money then Philly offered a little more and he jumped over...so it's not the teams fault at all...it's his fault for being a liar...
