Cleveland Indians rally past Detroit Tigers 5-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians crushed the Detroit Tigers 5-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, May 22 at Progressive Field, Cleveland in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Closer Chris Perez earned his 14th save as the Indians defeated their much aggressive opponents in the bottom ninth and took the early advantage in the series.
Perez was given the task to carry forward the winning combination which rest of the Indians perfectly coordinated for the Tigers in almost eight innings. His outing was also greatly cheered by the Indians fans, who know how important his presence is for
their team.
"That's the loudest I've ever been cheered here, It didn't go unnoticed, trust me. I'm humbled. That was really nice. I like to face those guys, I was pumped, the adrenaline was going. It could have gone the other way, I came through. I was thankful it
went the good way. We got off to a good start against them last year and we all know what happened at the end," Perez said with confidently.
Later the Tigers manager Jim Leyland also appreciated Perez and his pitching. He said in the media, "We had the guys up there we wanted, The guy (Perez) threw a nasty, nasty pitch to Cabrera and then Prince hit the ball hard, but at a guy."
Perez came to pitch for all important last inning and did perfectly well by holding his composure until the Indians got away with a win. He received only one hit and struck out one, leading his team to a deserted victory as well.
The Indians, from start of the game, kept the Tigers under pressure and never allowed them at any point to give somewhat a difficult match.
Once the Indians got away with the Tigers early two runs lead in the fifth inning, they never looked back and started towards an ultimate hammering where they easily finished the game winning it by two runs’ clear margin.
The next game is on Wednesday, May 23 and if the Indians again proved their game and won it, the chances are high that their win percentage will exceed .600.
