Cleveland Indians re-sign Grady Sizemore – MLB Update
Since the conclusion of the regular season, it was generally believed that Cleveland Indians’ free agent player, Grady Sizemore, will never return to the ballclub in team colours. However, the Indians could not digest the thought of seeing their utility
player playing for another outfit in Major League Baseball.
Although the Indians failed to grab a postseason spot this past season, they are confident of going through next time. The management is leaving no stone unturned in a bid to achieve that aim and have thus signed their oft-injured, yet stellar out-fielder
Sizemore.
Cleveland landed Sizemore on a one-year five-million-dollar deal to give him one more chance to prove his abilities on the big stage. Although there is no question about his talent, it is the injuries that raise questions on his fitness.
"We're obviously very excited to keep Grady in an Indians uniform," Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said. "He's been an integral part of our organization for the better part of the last 10 years, and he's been an integral part of some championship
teams for us. We look forward to Grady getting back on the field and having a healthy and productive 2012 season."
The player was all praise for the ballclub and stressed that it showed loyalty on part of the management. Sizemore asserted that this gesture was above and beyond all expectations and was something that was not really expected. He admitted that he was not
ready to wave goodbye to the millions of fans who have made him feel at home during his stay at Cleveland.
Sizemore’s agent, Joe Urbon, disclosed that the Indians wanted to retain the player and Grady was not stern in his approach during the free agency. Urbon added that Sizemore was thankful to all clubs showing interest in him, but the player was inclined towards
proving his mettle with Cleveland, which has become more than just a team for him.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that Sizemore will be testing the rough waters of this free agent market in less than a year’s time, once his contract expires with the Indians.
