Cleveland Indians receive 5-4 hammering from Chicago White Sox – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians received a 5-4 hammering at the hands of the Chicago White Sox in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, September 24 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
Cleveland’s hitters and pitchers, despite playing well in the particular game, could not save the game against the White Sox. They were certainly outplayed by the White Sox in every area of play.
"He's been terrific, That's why we can't complain about him at all. He's done an outstanding job. A lot of the times, he comes in to set up the game and he gets the heart of the order and he goes through it like nothing. And that 0-2 pitch to Dunn, we could've executed better there," Indians' manager Manny Acta said about his team’s performance.
Though the Indians’ upfront batting line-up showed good energy early in the game but overall it was Chicago’s potential pitchers who did not allow them to play freely at any point of the match-up.
Second baseman Jason Kipnis scored one run on his five at-bats while he also smashed two hits on his consistent slugging percentage at .381.
He could have played much better but he was outclassed by the White Sox’s starter Chris Sale who retired four Indians' batters on his consistent seven innings.
Indians’ designated hitter Carlos Santana scored one run on his single at-bat while he also smashed one hit on his .434 slugging percentage.
First baseman Russ Canzler scored one run and smashed one hit along with a RBI on his four at-bats while his slugging percentage remained at .388.
Indians’ pitchers also did not play well and lost the game against the White Sox’ offensive hitters.
“I felt good, I felt like I had a pretty good fastball today and pretty good command for the most part. I didn't mix, really, as well as I would've liked, but I felt good with my fastball and I stuck with that," McAllister said.
Starter Zach McAllister pitched six innings and received two runs and four hits. Though he retired seven White Sox’s batters, but he could maintain his ERA which rose to 4.25.
