Cleveland Indians reflect on recent performance after team loses to Texas Rangers 1-9
Cleveland Indians’ manager Manny Acta was not pleased on Wednesday, September 14 to see his club lose out to the Texas Rangers 1-9 in humiliating fashion, away from home at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The visiting team lost the second game of the
series after allowing eight runs to go against David Huff in the fourth.
The first three runs went against the starter, Huff on a RBI single and a two-run homer. But the next five runs could have been avoided if third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall would not have committed a fielding error on an Ian Kinsler hit. The Rangers loaded
the bases on the error. The play ended up costing the club five extra runs as Elveis Andrus managed a RBI single and Josh Hamilton slammed a grand slam against the hurler.
"That's what happens when you load the bases," Acta said. "There's a reason for that. I can't explain it. Maybe it's having the wrong guy at the plate."
Huff walked off the mound after the end of the fourth inning. The ball thrower pitched his four innings, conceding eight runs on eight hits. He however still has a respectable earned runs average of 3.40 from two wins and five losses in the season. Hamilton’s
grand slam against the star will weigh heavy on his conscious though.
"I left too many pitches over the middle," said Huff. "A guy like Hamilton doesn't miss many mistakes."
The Indians are now on third place in the American League Central following their recent loss. After a strong start in the season, they have slid to third place in disappointing fashion. Nevertheless, there is a positive outlook on the club’s display in
the league this year. Acta plans to take a good note from the experience.
"Every team has different goals," Acta said. "Our goal was to win the division. If not, then it is second place. If not that, then it is to finish above .500."
With the Indians on a good finish in the season, they can look to accomplish new heights in the next season.
