Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Chris Perez feeling the heat – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Chris Perez is getting the right momentum after settling down in the new season. His fast curving throws are disturbing the Indians’ opponents as he recently won several games for them.
Earlier some news came out in the media that he is still feeling the hammering of Opening Day when the Toronto Blue Jays hit him with three vital runs which were eventually proved lethal to the Indians.
However, the closer has almost forgotten anything what had happened earlier on Opening Day and particularly his hammering. He is now sitting in a quite comfortable place where everything seems fine at the moment.
“I wasn’t worried after what happened on Opening Day because it helped knowing I’d been there before, having blown my first [save] opportunity in Double-A,” Perez said. “I know it’s just Double-A, but it’s still experience you can go back to. After I blew that save, I reeled off 34 in a row, so I’ve been there. I’ve blown it, had my back against the wall and recovered.”
Recently, the Indians manager Manny Acta also said for Perez, “It starts from the top, the closer, and trickles down,” “If your top guy is doing good, then the rest of the guys just seem to fall into line.”
Since Opening Day, the relief pitcher is playing very well and proving his place. His record with 0-0 along with 4.00 ERA is considered balanced for a player like his calibre.
Overall, his four-year of professional playing career never saw anything like this year’s Opening Day’s poor play. Instead, his career ERA of 3.16 along with 75 save, 217 strikeouts and 1.20 WHIP has always given him the right recognition.
In the meanwhile, this is very good sign for the Indians as their one of the balanced players is feeling the heat of this fresh season.
Experts believe that the way Perez is performing in the ongoing MLB competition, the chances are high for the Indians to prevail into the next round as after mid season break, Perez’s role will be more important for his franchise.
