Cleveland Indians’ relief pitcher Chris Perez injured with strained left oblique muscle
The Cleveland Indians’ relief pitcher Chris Perez will not be available for some three to four weeks as he is injured now with strained left oblique muscle during a practice session in Arizona in 2012 Major League Spring Training camp.
The Indians' manager Manny Acta said for this late blow, "Vinnie Pestano will close if Chris is not ready. He's a natural guy to go to." He also explained as the Indians will soon be solving out his injury issues.
Later Perez also commented in the media, "What Lonnie meant when he said that is that it was the first day [of camp] and I was going 100 percent, He probably wanted me to go 50 to 75 percent. That's not who I am. I get work in at 100 percent. I'm not going to throw a bullpen at 50 percent, miss all my spots and pretty much waste a day. I was doing what I normally do in the bullpen."
A four year veteran and former St. Louis Cardinals’ ace pitcher, Perez certainly is a great player. His late injury can cost the Indians’ big time, but if he comes back in time, the Indians can overcome the deficit. Before coming into this year’s Spring Training camp, Perez certainly was in great energy to perform well in the next season. Perez, who has also been working hard in this offseason, now faces approximately a month’s absence. This injury will hurt his game that needed some practice before entering into a new season.
On contrary to his injury, the Indians will now focus on the other players and try to compete well in the next season.
Last year, the Indians performed well and achieved a good position in their own Division. The top Indians' management is also hoping that this season will bring some good results for them as well. Already the Indians have just completed 40- man roster and now sitting pretty well and doing some practice in Spring Training. Some experts have also speculated in the media as the Indians will be want to establish a set of offensive strategies in order to achieve productive results next season.
