Cleveland Indians rout Chicago White Sox 3-2 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians edge past the Chicago White Sox 3-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, April 22 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
“You just keep shooting yourself in the foot, You give major league teams opportunities, and they're going to take advantage of them. And until we clean it up, we're going to lose games. It's just that simple. It's not hard to figure out," manager Robin
Ventura said.
Indians dominated the White Sox early in the game and showed great offensive play. Their pitchers and hitters also contributed in their team’s overall well fought match.
“It was nice to win a ballgame. We've got some big home runs, but to group together some singles, that was huge," manager Terry Francona said.
“Maybe this is the start hopefully of him getting hot, because he's going to get really hot at some point," said Francona, who celebrated his 54th birthday.
Justin Masterson started the game for the Indians and pitched seven solid innings. He allowed two runs and four hits along with two earned runs. He struck out five White Sox major batters on 1.85 ERA.
“The boys played great defense, Again, Santana was exceptional, especially making play at second base," Masterson said.
Relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano pitched one inning and struck out one on 1.29 ERA. Relief pitcher Chris Perez pitched one inning and struck out one on his 1.29 ERA.
Left fielder Michael Brantley scored one run on one hit. He came to bat three times and maintained his slugging percentage at .281.
Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera also played well on the plate as he ran for two RBIs on four at bats. He also maintained his slugging percentage .281.
On the other hand, the White Sox pitchers and hitters could not play their natural game and lost bitterly in the end. Dylan Axelrod started the game for the White Sox.
He pitched six innings and allowed one run and three hits. He struck out three while his ERA rose to 3.80. Relief pitcher Matt Thornton pitched one inning and allowed two runs and two hits on 4.76 ERA.
