Cleveland Indians rout Houston Astros 2-0 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Houston Astros 2-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, June 22 at Minute Maid Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Indians’ continued their great run and ousted the Astros with some decent competitiveness.
Ubaldo Jimenez played brilliantly and won the game for the Indians. He pitched 6.2 scoreless innings and received only four hits and struck out eight.
"It's really a nice place to pitch," he said. "It's warm, everything breaks. So it's fun to pitch here."
Later Indians manager Manny Acta said, "When you win those ballgames, it's a good sign, It means that you can't go back into the game and look at mistakes that you made that cost you the game. Harrell was just very tough, he pitched very well, but Ubaldo was also very good, (Jimenez) had good off-speed stuff, especially the split-finger fastball. He had better command of his fastball later in the game and just did a very nice job."
On the other hand, the Astros starter Lucas Harrell despite playing well could not save the game for his team. He tossed seven innings and received one run on two hits.
Overall the game was played on high pace but the Indians remained more focus as they won in the end with great accuracy.
Going early into lead, the Indians strengthened their defence and never allowed the Astros to score even a single run. They stood tall against the Astros batting offence which slowly but steadily ousted them.
In the meanwhile, this particular win has placed the Indians at top in the American League Central Division with 37-32 win loss and .536 winning percentage.
The Tribe’s men has ousted the Chicago White Sox from the top position and managed to lead the Division.
This is also a healthy sign that the Indians are now at top position. Earlier when they were dropped to second position, some experts started to say that their downfall has now begun and soon they will be out of contest to qualify for the post season but now the way Indians have bounced back into the competition, their chance are looking obvious to take part in the playoffs.
