Cleveland Indians rout Los Angeles Angels 6-2 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 13 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
Indians showed their true fire power and ease past the Angels with authority. They played as one unit and never gave any chance to their opponents which eventually proved fruitful for them in the end.
They kept the Angels under pressure and won in the end. Indians’ pitchers seemed determined and tossed some extraordinary pitches to Angels’ batter who were unable to play them easy.
Justin Masterson looked confident from start of the game as he pitched six innings and did not allow any run. He received six hits and struck-out four Angels’ hitters on his 4.50 ERA.
"Masterson matches up well against that lineup because they have a lot of right-handed hitters, and he's very effective against righties, His sinker coming into their hands, the slider going away from them ... he matches up well," Indians' manager Manny Acta said of Masterson.
Later Angels’ outfielder Mark Trumbo also said of his team-mate and starter Masterson, “He's throwing low- to mid-90s with a power sinker. ... He combined it with a few offspeed pitches, but mainly the fastball today. He throws one in there that's straight, and then he'll throw another one in there that drops a couple feet, and sometimes your eyes aren't quick enough to check that off."
Joe Smith also played well as he pitched one inning and struck-out two on his 2.98 ERA. Closer Vinnie Pestano pitched one inning and allowed two runs and one hit on his consistent 1.56 ERA.
On the other hand, the Angels’ pitchers did not play well and allowed six runs in total.
Starter C.J. Wilson pitched 6.2 innings and allowed three runs and six hits. He struck-out only five and smashed with a homer on his 3.32 ERA.
Closer Hisanori Takahashi also played poorly as he allowed three runs and three hits on his 5.18 ERA.
