Cleveland Indians’ shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera wins first career Silver Slugger Award – MLB News

The Cleveland Indians’ short-stop Asdrubal Cabrera has won yet another award after being named into Sporting News’ annual post-season All-Star team last month. Now he has won American League Silver Slugger award and made history as he became the first short-stop
in the Indians’ franchise to grab this prestigious honour that often determines an individual’s offensive prowess.
This award is simply linked with Cabrera’s performance in 2011 Major League Baseball season. He played tremendously and earned great acknowledgement fromm many baseball experts. Cabrera, who finished with a .273 batting average, 25 homers and 92 RBI's in
total, was the certain choice for most of the coaches and managers, who voted for him in the 2011 MLB post-season awards. He played all round during the whole 2011 campaign and led his team in most runs 87, along with 165 hits, 92 RBIs, 17 stolen bases.
Cabrera’s these tremendous stats were also appreciated by the Indians’ manager Manny Acta at the end of 2011 season, who has publically mentioned in the past, “He's on his way, That's a big way to show your teammates how much you care, We challenged him,
and he stepped up, This year he not only led by example, he was vocal at times, the fact that he was able to go out there and play when he was injured.”
Asdrubal’s tremendous talent has recently emerged with full conviction as he started to dominate the pitchers gaining him national recognition across the United States of America. A recent survey has also showed his popularity where he is only standing behind
the New York Yankees short-stop Derek Jeter, who is the led vote leader for all American League short-stops.
Cabrera’s huge talent and baseball skills make him a natural performer at the highest level. Even being named for this award, it looked pretty obvious as he will grab this year’s Silver Slugger award. However, this award will not only boost Cabrera’s confidence
for the next season, but also help the Indians’ management to secure a reasonable reason not to trade him. After the 2011 season, many reports started to come as the Indians’ management is thinking to trade some of their potential players to generate revenue
in order to bring a little financial stability in the franchise.
