Cleveland Indians show interest in Jeremy Bonderman
Cleveland Indians are looking forward to sign Jeremy Bonderman of Detroit Tigers.
Apparently, this move is taking place after the Detroit Tigers General Manger, Dave Dombrowski, sent negative signs to the pitcher.
“We are not signing Jeremy”, Dave Dombrowski told a local newspaper.
Once the player joins the team, he will be in competition with Jeanmar Gomez, Josh Tomlin, Anthony Reyes and David Huff. The players are in line for a final spot in the starting rotation.
While speculations are rife, the General Manager of Cleveland Indians, Chris Antonetti, refused to comment. Sources revealed this latest happening just a few hours after Tigers’GM gave his statement.
According to some reports it is not apparent whether the deal will be MLB or Minor League, but some sources commented that Dombrowski’s statement provides hints for his signing of another team contract.
Bonderman signed a $38 million four-year contract with the Tigers in 2007. He managed to earn $12.5 million in 2010 as his last year of the contract.
The 28-year old right-handed pitcher set 8-10 with 5.33 ERA (Earned Runs Average) over 171 innings in the last season with Detroit Tigers.
The team ended last season with 81-81 with a slugging percentage of .414. Detroit holds the third position in the American League central table, with Minnesota and Chicago White Sox holding first and second place respectively.
Jeremy has been a part of the Tigers since 2003. The #38 pitcher injured his shoulder in 2008 that compelled him to stay away from the game for some time. Bonderman appeared in just 20 games in the 2008-09 seasons due to injury problems. The experts noted
that the pitcher had lost significant pace in his fastball after the shoulder surgery in 2008.
Throughout his Major League Baseball career, he has only played for Detroit Tigers. He went 67-77 with 4.89 ERA and 929 strikeouts. He never managed to win any award but he proved to be an important player for Detroit.
Bonderman showed interest to remain in Detroit. However, his appearance for the Tigers in the next season will be surprising, given the rumours nowadays.
