Cleveland Indians show reluctance to deal with Shin-Soo Choo – MLB Update
Cleveland Indians’ Korean star Shin-Soo Choo is expecting another contract with the Indians but with some special issues, Choo has not received any fresh deal.
Though many speculations have come out in the media regarding Choo’s new deal with the Indians but his agent Scott Boras is not letting this deal happen.
He knows Choo’s worth in the Major League Baseball. As Choo files for free agency this offseason, Boras wants to test his free agency’s worth with leading team’s interest in him.
For this single reason, Boras has already briefed Choo to not to play in this year’s World Baseball Classic. This is not confirmed yet, but the Korean star is expected to miss next years big event.
“Choo's let it be known that he has a desire to win, I think the ownership in Cleveland, foundationally, they're going to have to illustrate some dynamics with new revenues and where they stand about what they do to show their fan base and their players who they are in competing," Boras told MLB.com and explained them about his client’s developing new contract with the Indians.
Choo said in the past and told the media about World Baseball Classic’s importance, “Of course, A lot of countries just enjoy to play (in the WBC), but the Korean team and Japanese team I think are more serious. The United States, Dominican (Republic), Venezuela — a lot of countries just enjoy to play. Korea’s not (that way). There’s more stress and more pressure.”
Choo, a seven year Major League veteran, finished this recent past season with .283 hitting average along with 16 homers, 67 RBIs and .373 OBP.
Like this season, Choo has been performing in the biggest baseball league in the world with consistency. His career hitting average of .289 along with 83 homers, 373 RBIs and .381 OBP also shows a persistent growth in his performance.
Experts believe this late development regarding Choo and Indians potential new deal, is a positive move and the way agent Scott Boras is handling this entire situation is also a positive effort which certainly will bring some constructive change in the coming weeks.
