Cleveland Indians shutout by Oakland Athletics 0-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians defeated by the Oakland Athletics 0-3 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 27 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Indians played poorly from the start and could not save the game.
Athletics’ starter Brett Anderson played brilliantly as he pitched seven solid innings and did not receive any run. He only received two hits and struck-out five Indians’ batters on his 0.64 ERA.
“His stuff was electric," manager Bob Melvin said
"You have to be aware of the situation; I hadn't allowed a baserunner, I can't get too upset, but it would have been interesting to see how it played out," Anderson said after the game about his performance which proved wonderful for the Athletics.
Ryan Cook pitched one inning and remained calm on the mound. He did not receive any hit or run and struck-out two on his 2.45 ERA.
Closer Grant Balfour also pitched accurately and earned a great victory for their team. He pitched one inning and did not allow any run or hit. He struck-out three while his ERA remained consistent at 2.54.
On the other hand, the Indians’ pitchers did not play well and could not save the game against the Athletics.
They gave too much openings to the Indians from start of the game and were never able to bounce back.
Roberto Hernandez pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four hits and three runs. He was also smashed for one homer while he could not strike-out a single Athletics’ hitter.
"It was not a good matchup for us, A guy like Anderson, a left-handed pitcher with a good breaking ball -- he overmatched our guys. He wanted to stay out there, but that's not the right thing to do if you can't push off the back leg," Indians’ manager Manny
Acta said.
Hernandez pitched way-ward as his ERA rose to blistering 7.53. Hernandez’s lame pitching also proved one of the losing factors for the Indians.
His team-mate and closing pitcher Chris Seddon somehow pitched well but still it was not enough for the Indians to win the game against the Athletics’ flawless offence.
