Cleveland Indians slip to New York Yankees 1-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to the New York Yankees 1-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, August 24 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
C.C. Sabathia played wonderfully for the Yankees and earned a great victory. He showed total commitment and proved one of the winning factors for the Yankees in the end.
Sabathia pitched 7.1 innings and received only one run and allowed four hits. He struck-out nine and remained calm on the mound. His ERA also stayed consistent at 3.44 and he received only one homer.
"I felt good, strong, but we'll see how I feel in a couple of days," Sabathia said on his performance and on his team’s overall offence.
Later, Yankees' manager Joe Girardi commented on his starter and said, "He really knows how to pitch, I was pleasantly surprised how solid his command was. You don't throw for 15 days, you don't always get that.”
Not only the starter but the Yankees’ relief and closing pitchers also played well and placed their team in a winning position.
Yankees’ relief pitcher David Robertson pitched 0.2 innings and did not receive any hit or run. He struck-out one and maintained his 2.36 ERA with complete precision.
Closer Rafael Soriano also did well on the mound and showed his valour. He allowed only two hits as he struck-out one with his ERA a consistent 1.61.
"We won, we won, That is what counts." Soriano said with much jubilation.
On the other hand, the Indians' pitchers performed without much energy and lost the game.
“We played pretty decent tonight and had our chances offensively, Still, you need to execute better than we did," Indians' manager Manny Acta said on his team’s effort.
Starter Corey Kluber pitched five innings and allowed one run and six hits. Though he struck-out six but his ERA rose to 5.32.
"I knew it was going to come at some point, but I hate that it happened in a situation like this," Allen said.
Relief pitcher Cody Allen pitched only one inning but allowed two runs and two hits on his 1.23 ERA.
