Cleveland Indians slip to Tampa Bay Rays 2-4 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians were defeated by Tampa Bay Rays 2-4 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 17 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Rays’ played much better and stood tall against the Indians' tough offence. They never let them control the game at any point of the match. Instead kept them under pressure and eventually won it with style.
"We couldn't do much offensively," Indians' manager Manny Acta said. "I thought we had enough traffic out there. Just couldn't execute. Just couldn't get that hit to get us over the hump."
"The guy was out at second base, but what are you going to do?" Acta said. "You can't blame it on the umpire. I didn't find anything tricky about the play. Throw beat the guy, clean tag, out. He didn't see it that way, (Said) that the guy got the hand in there."
Entire Rays’ roster played well and earned a great victory for their team. Their experienced batters hit with enormous power and kept the score-board ticking.
Seven year Major League veteran B.J. Upton played tremendously for the Rays as he scored one run on two hits.
First baseman Carlos Pena also did well with his bat as he also added a run with two RBIs.
Not only the batters but the Rays pitchers also performed tremendously and outplayed the Indians with comprehensiveness.
Starter Matt Moore pitched five innings and gave up only two runs. He pitched well and remained calm on the mound as he retired three White Sox batters.
His 4.39 ERA also showed his resilience on the mound as he certainly proved his valour defeating a much experienced team than the Rays.
On the other hand, the Indians’ came out at Tropicana field with low confidence and left the Rays’ home ground with a well executed defeat.
Starter Josh Tomlin, who has been quite consistent so far, could have saved the game for the Indians.
He was hammered with four runs which eventually proved one of the losing factors for the Indians in the end.
