Cleveland Indians spell trouble as Grady Sizemore goes off for third Disabled List stint – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians faced another problem on Monday, July 18 when their centre-fielder Grady Sizemore had to be placed on the 15-day disabled list for the third time this season.
He was placed on the disabled list because of a bruised right knee which first got hurt on May 11 this year when Sizemore made a hard slide into second base. The previous two stints on the disabled list have been because of the same problem.
Sizemore was sent back from Minnesota to Cleveland for initial scanning. Sizemore commented that there is a lot of concern about the knee and that the pain was intense and immediate. It is still, however, not confirmed as to how many days he might need to
sit out.
Cleveland’s manager Manny Acta referred Sizemore’s injury to his hard playing style. He said, "The way he plays and the way he goes about his business, he goes hard after it. You've got to respect that. He's not going to be taking it easy just to get healthy."
Acta stated that reprogramming yourself to play easily is not an option when it comes to someone like Grady’s character. He is always giving his 100 percent even if he is not fully fit.
The last seven days have been exceptional for Sizemore. In 11 at-bats, he has scored three runs and managed four hits. He is batting at an average of .364 with one home-run and two RBIs to his credit in the seven-day span. This has been a major reason why
his ratings have increased 3.9 points in the last seven days.
Sizemore was cautious when commenting about his injury. He remembered the torment he had to go through last season when he had to cope with the left knee injury. Sizemore said, "I just hope I don't have to go through what I went through last year."
The Cleveland Indians are currently leading the American League Central Division with a win-loss record of 51-44. The two consecutive games and the subsequent victories at Target Field helped the Indians take a critical one game lead from the fighting Detroit
Tigers. The two back-to-back wins now give a seven game advantage to the Indians over the Minnesota Twins who are placed fourth in the division, right above last placed Kansas City Royals.
The Minnesota Twins are 44-51 for the season and now are in a vital position as they face the Indians in the final two games of the four-game series. A successful run in the two games can take them closer to third-placed Chicago White Sox and if things go
otherwise, the gap between Twins and Royals will close down.
It will be imperative to see how the Indians cope without their centre-fielder Sizemore and tackle the Twins who have the entire arsenal to topple even the strongest sides.
