Cleveland Indians starting pitcher David Huff shows optimism ahead of next season – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians starting pitcher David Huff is looking in good spirits during the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training in Arizona.
Few starters from the Indians currently are observing keenly regarding the fifth spot in the roster that is yet to be finalised by the top management in next couple of weeks.
“I just think about going out and making good pitches and attacking guys, I can’t think about that now,” Huff said of his obvious goal. “I have to think about facing hitters.”
Huff, a three year veteran, has now developed his game with great fast throwing. He not only now considered one of the best pitchers in the Indians roster, but he also enjoys the support of several coaches.
From hitting coaches to pitching coaches, Huff is somewhat very popular among them. His past three years’ performances are also relatively consistence and if he gets the chance to be selected at number five spot, the results of the team will enormously be different than last year.
Lately, during the Spring Training, the Indians manager Manny Acta also hoped a better beginning for Huff. He said showing enormous confidence on him, “Huff battled today, even when he had traffic on the bases, I saw some good things today, especially early, by our starting line-up, we did some good situational hitting, driving the run in from third. It’s early in camp, what got him in trouble were the left-handers. Then he gave up that bloop and a ground ball that barely got by Kipnis.”
Last year, going with 4.09 ERA along with 2-6 win-loss record, 36 strikeouts and 1.42 Whip, Huff received much appreciation from many baseball experts. Overall his 5.50 ERA along with 15-25 win-loss, 138 strikeouts and 1.57 WHIP is an impressive record to have.
The next season is also going to open many opportunities for Huff, who is ready to play with full energy whenever the next season will start. If Huff remained aggressive and sticks with the objective of getting good results next season, it is possible that the Indians will surprise all their critics.
