Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez still to play in 2012 MLB season – MLB News
It seems that the Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez formerly known as Fausto Carmona will be facing a lot of difficulties to get a work permit from the United States authorities while at the same time he fears a potential suspension from Major League Baseball on using false identity which could end his baseball career.
Currently, he is in Dominican Republic and battling with the US government to get a temporary work permit, as he, at-least get to the field to begin his 2012 MLB campaign with the Cleveland Indians.
No one in the Indians’ franchise knows that whether Roberto will be playing in MLB this season or not. The US government is already not supporting him while if he gets the potential suspension from MLB, his career with the biggest baseball league will be over. However, the Indians manager Acta seems little optimistic for his return and also in touch with him as he recently commented in the media regarding Roberto.
Tribe manager Manny Acta said. “I talked to him yesterday, He’s getting a little antsy back home. But this is totally out of his and our hands. He’s up to 85 pitches, He’s staying in shape.”
Earlier, Stephen Payne, who is a visa expert and lobbyist hired by Hernandez's agents, has told the media regarding his all issues as he said, “I'm somewhat familiar with the negotiations between the Indians and Roberto.”
He added, “I feel there was a general understanding between all parties that the punishment would be a $7.5 million reduction in pay [as opposed to a suspension]. The State Department could come back and ask for a suspension in addition to the reduction in salary that the Indians and Roberto have agreed to."
Roberto’s case now has been much publicised and there are very few chances remaining on which his fans can say that he might be playing in the ongoing season. In order to play in the season, first, he must pray for sort of lenient suspension from the MLB and secondly he must get the work permit to enter into the US.
