Cleveland Indians suffered heavy defeat from Detroit Tigers – MLB News
Cleveland Indians got defeated 1-5 by Detroit Tigers in the first game of their two-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, May 21 at Progress Field in Cleveland.
Starter, Max Scherzer, certainly won the game for the Tigers. He tossed eight innings and allowed one run on two hits along with one earned run. He struck out seven Indians on 3.61 ERA.
"He knew that was going to be it for him, He really cranked it up. That was pretty impressive," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
Indians manager Terry Francona also said, “That was a dominant performance, His last pitch was 98, and when you're up around 115 or 120 pitches and you have that left in the tank, that's saying a lot. Nobody
out, you're asking for trouble, If you walk him you have first and second with nobody out, you're putting your pitcher in tough spot.”
Along with Scherzer, the Tigers batting line-up also played wonderfully and won the game in style. They played Indians’ pitchers intelligently with heavy hitting.
Scherzer said, "I definitely had the adrenaline going in that situation, You know that's your last inning and you throw the ball as hard as you can."
Left fielder Andy Dirks scored one run on two hits, as he also ran for two RBIs on his five at bats. Dirks hit hard and maintained his slugging percentage of .415.
Former Los Angeles Angels’ star, Torii Hunter, also played well with his one run on one hit. He played at a consistent pace and maintained his .411 slugging percentage.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera ran for two RBIs. He scored one run on four at bats while he maintained his slugging percentage of .667.
On the other hand, the Indians could not play their natural aggressive game and lost in a dismal fashion. Their pitchers and batters did not perform as required and eventually got hammered by the Tigers.
Starting pitcher Corey Kluber pitched 6.1 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. He was hammered with two home runs along with three earned runs on 5.19 ERA. Though he also struck out eight Tigers but
overall, he just could not save the game for his team.
