Cleveland Indians surpass Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, July 16 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Entire Indians’ team looked confident from start of the game and kept the Rays under pressure throughout the game.
The Tribe’s men went early into the lead in the very first innings and strengthened it in the third with two quick runs in the bottom third.
Though the Rays did come back in the fourth and with another run in the seventh but on the whole, the Indians’ defence was more determined and gave their opponents a humiliating defeat.
Especially starter Zach McAllister played wonderfully for the Indians as he pitched six innings and received only one run on three hits along with one earned run. He also struck-out five as his ERA remained consistent at 3.17.
"This whole game was a battle for me," McAllister said. "I had a good mix (of pitches). I wouldn't say anything was great, but I was able to mix pretty well."
Later Cleveland manager Manny Acta discussed his team’s overall play and said, "We had a lot of opportunities to score runs, we know that. Wasn't very good night executing offensively, but we won the ballgame, These guys have been able to win close ballgames
the whole year. They'll fight, they'll fight and fight. Tonight it was the case when it looked like it was going to be one of those games that at the end was going to bite you."
Closer Esmil Rogers also proved a helping hand in the Indians win as he gave up one run on one hit along with one earned run in his 0.2 innings. He remained calm on the mound as his ERA also stayed consistent at 2.25.
On the other hand, the Rays’ starter Alex Cobb did not play well and proved disastrous in the end. He gave up three runs on five hits along with two earned runs.
Cobb, despite striking-out three batters, still could not manage to hold onto his 4.92 ERA and eventually did not save the game for the Tampa Bay Rays.
