Cleveland Indians’ trade second baseman Luis Valbuena to Toronto Blue Jays – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians have finally taken a decision of trading second baseman Luis Valbuena to the Toronto Blue Jays that might bring some stability in their roster after a dismal 2011 campaign.
The Indians’ management, who has first predicted at the GMs annual meeting in Milwaukee that they are planning to trade Valbuena in next few days, traded him to the Blue Jays on Saturday.
At second base, Valbuena’s performance did not prove well for the Indians and the desired results never came, especially for the last two years.
Since his arrival in 2008 in a three-team trade with Seattle Mariners and the New York Mets at the winter meeting, Valbuena did start well with his good batting average of .250 in a total of 103 games (92-for-368) along with 25 total doubles, three triples,
10 home-runs and 31 RBIs.
But as he started in 2010, his game declined massively and he never gained momentum like what he had achieved in 2009. He batted at an average of .193 (53-for-275) along with 12 doubles, two home-runs and 24 RBIs.
Though, he tried to settle his game but always faced some serious problems and never recovered from that bad patch. The very next year, the Indians mutually decided to send him to their Triple-A Columbus affiliates in the Minor League to perfect his game.
Sending him to Minor League was somehow a good decision as he soon picked the lost pace playing at outfield, third and second positions.
Valbuena, who regained his consistency in the Minor League but as soon as he made his way into the Indians again in the Major League, he started to fall and went down with an average of .209 (9-for-43) including only one home-run in a total of 17 games.
Trading Valbuena is an intelligent decision by the Cleveland Indians, but still many baseball experts believe that to improve further and book a place in the post-season, the Indians now must bring two or three potential players into their 40-man roster
in order to do well in the next Major League Baseball season.
