Cleveland rejoices as LeBron James fails to land the ring – NBA Update
The Cleveland Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland finally heard a good news from the basketball court on Sunday night. It had nothing to do with their own team though; rather the reason for their joy was the defeat of the Miami
Heat and LeBron James in the NBA Finals by the Dallas Mavericks.
With their team not even making the playoffs, and instead finishing as the second worst team in the league this past season, it would seem odd that the city of Cleveland followed the playoffs and the NBA Finals. But they did.
The reason, of course, was LeBron James. King James left his kingdom in ruins last year. When he announced “the Decision”, the whole town rose up against their King. The fallout from LeBron leaving Cleveland has been very extreme
indeed. James is now viewed as a traitor in his former home and the city rejoices every time he fails.
When he left, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert, was overcome with anger. Gilbert famously guaranteed Cleveland Cavaliers’ fans, and everyone else, that his franchise would win an NBA World Championship before LeBron
James does.
Although that still seems a very tall claim, the Cavs and their owner scored a mini victory on Sunday with LeBron and the Miami Heat failing to win the NBA title at the first time of trying together.
Dan Gilbert couldn’t hide his delight at the turn of events and took to twitter in order to express his sentiments. Although the message was directed towards congratulating the Mavericks and their owner Mark Cuban, Dan’s thinly
veiled jibe at LeBron is what stood out the most. Here is what the Cavs owner tweeted,
“Congrats to Mark C.&entire Mavs org. Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all:There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE.”
It’s not only the fans and the owner who were scorned when LeBron James decided to take his talents to South Beach. Many of the players also felt abandoned. They had all assembled around LeBron James, embraced him as their leader
and expected him to take them to NBA World Championship glory. So there plans fell apart too when LeBron decided he needed a change of scenery.
Many of the players have since themselves moved on from Cleveland. One of them is Mo Williams. The point guard was at LeBron’s side for three years in Cleveland. He now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. After Dallas Mavericks
won the NBA World Championship, Mo Williams decided to make his feelings known through twitter as well.
Unlike Dan Gilbert, his message was short and simple,
“Dallas just healed my HEART……..”
It’s kind of the theme in Cleveland too.
