Cliff Lee, better today, still better tomorrow?
The game of baseball, similar to other games, is something that comes with the probability of losing. It also comes with the probability that the pitcher and the hitter will spoil their form on the field and deliver a disappointing performance.
Nevertheless, when it comes to Cliff Lee, no one can deny the veteran pitcher has been anything short of frightening on the pitch against the batters facing him on the plate.
The problem with many players and managers comes in the form of inconsistent deliveries. However, the ball thrower has disposed of any premonition that he has been short on rest or form. His season with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers produced
a good number of exhibitions on the mound. He’s currently considered a hard contender for the top pitcher against the New York Yankees’ Carsten Charles Sabathia.
Cliff Lee is in question of his worth these days and when Chuck Greenberg at the Rangers was asked the same thing before the World Series, he answered with, “Cliff Lee is worth everything that he's going to get”.
The statement now seems to lose its perfect resonance since his performance in the tournament, lost two hard games for the ball club. If there’s anything, one can say with acuity it is that the club pitcher throws a hard deal against the top teams in the
league.
The question beckons an answer after the New York Yankees made their interest in the player public recently. He is certainly not worth a 7 year $161 million deal, at the moment.
However, Lee and his agent, Darek Braunecker will state the opposite, looking back on the pitcher’s contribution in the last three years. It’s not debatable whether the Lee was at the top in the years that followed today. He has been 48–25 in his wins/loss
tally. In addition his Earning Runs Average is estimated to be 2.98. He’s achieved 17 straight game results from 93 game starts.
Sabathia in comparison, who signed his contract, spanning 7 years with $161 million valuation, has done well with 57–25 wins and losses. His ERA has been at 3.07 with 14 complete games.
However, the distinction between Sabathia and Lee rests on the playoffs and that is something one can’t argue with as the real contest comes in the top contest. Before Charles went to the Yankees, he had no experience in the post season and that signifies
the importance of Cliff to any team.
