Cliff Lee is confident of coming off of the Disabled list soon - MLB Update
Left oblique strain of Cliff Lee after pitching 10 strong innings in a game against San Francisco Giants has started to heal faster than expected. Cliff Lee has expressed that he is feeling better now. While believing that he will have to miss few starts,
he looked fairly confident of his return.
His injury was a big blow to an already struggling side, the Philadelphia Phillies. Immediately after reporting injury he was put on 15-day DL.
As per Lee himself, by the time he felt pain, management took time in reaching the decision and he says he was fit enough to have avoided the DL though the fact management leaned on the safer side, it was preferred.
He admitted however that initially pain was unbearable and just gave the feeling of pessimism ahead, within just few days it fizzled out much to the pleasure of his mind.
“The past couple of days it was pretty sore. But today it felt better than yesterday. We're heading in the right direction. Hopefully I’ll miss just a couple of starts and it will be back to normal,” He said.
While he threw ten scoreless innings, which unfortunately did not bring the win to his side, he said he did not feel much about it, only when he went out and just the following day he saw the problem had grown acute.
“I felt a little something in the game and I didn't think really much about it, to be honest with you,” he said. “The next day it was sore and when I threw it lingered around.”
Along with Roy Halladay, Vance Worley and Cole Hamels, he is an important component of the Phillies’ rotation. The fact Phillies do not possess the best of offences, their pitchers have been thrust an extra responsibility.
Time-line of his return is not confirmed yet. Within few days an announcement from the team is likely.
The fact Lee met with disappointment even after throwing incredibly well in last game may hurt his confidence as he returns back to the mound. Hopefully, he will not have that loss in mind and will give his best regardless of the contribution the offence
brings.
