Cliff Lee saga continues as Texas Rangers await final outcome
If there’s one thing that has gotten all fans wondering what’s going to happen in the next few days, it’s the Cliff Lee saga they’re thinking of. The top pitcher in the free agency is going to make a decision soon on where he wants to end up and with more
than 5 teams involved in the pursuit of his service, the stakes are very high. The ball player who had been the driving force behind the Texas Rangers’ bid for the World Series is one of the best ball throwers in Major League Baseball, today.
The Rangers are looking to tie him up for at least 6 years but they face a tough competition from the New York Yankees. The Yanks are by far the richest club in the league and their first offer for the player has been valued at $140 million. Their proposal
however has been upgraded in the recent days. It is expected that the club are willing to offer 7 years and may raise the contract worth by $10 million or more.
That news had been the worrying signs for the Rangers which is one of the reasons why CEO of the franchise, Chuck Greenberg, led a three man delegation to Arkansas. The team met with Cliff Lee, his wife and his agent, Darek Braunecker. They discussed the
matter and pulled out a variety of offers for the pitcher to consider. At the end of the day, Greenberg came out of the meeting with a good impression.
Now many teams wait on Lee’s word and that has President of the Rangers, Nolan Ryan, optimistic about the proceedings thus far. He was recently available to give his take on the situation.
"One of the things that's good is you don't hear any reports coming out of New York about them making any additional offers," Nolan Ryan said. "If you hear that the Yankees had gone in and made another offer, then I would be concerned."
On the other hand, Rangers’ manager, Ron Washington, was also another figure at the club who was looking to share his thoughts. He said he had a feeling about Lee returning but he didn’t exactly know that for a fact.
"I'm biased and I want him back," Manager Ron Washington said on the phone after being inducted in the Black Texas Sports Hall of Fame. "My gut feeling is he'll be here. Ultimately, the decision is Cliff's to make - but my gut feeling is he'll be back in
Texas."
Where will Lee go? Thats one thing many will hope to hear next week.
