Cliff Thorburn and Michaela Tabb give debutant Stuart Carrington advice – Snooker News
Former 1980 World Snooker Champion, Cliff Thorburn and Michaela Tabb both have offered encouragement to Stuart Carrington, who recently qualified for the professional circuit from the Q School series on May, 2011.
Carrington will be playing in his second Players Tour Championship event next month in Gloucester and the 63-year-old, Thorburn, who was the first ever man to knock in a 147 break in the World Championship, has advised him to fully utilise his first professional
tour.
Thorburn believes if a player plays with good players, his game improves a lot quicker. Moreover, he thinks a player should participate in almost every tournament so that he becomes better at dealing with pressure situations.
While speaking with the media, he said, "If you are around good players and watch good players I think your game will come on a lot quicker. You are only as good as who you play. It's much better to be out playing in competitions than practicing more by
yourself."
Thorburn also spoke about the dangers of getting used to playing on one table. He stated that a player should learn to play his natural game on every table. This ability will make a player unbeatable.
"If you are playing well on one particular table but can replicate your game on other tables, then the world is your oyster – it's as simple as that."
Meanwhile, one of the world’s leading snooker referees, Michaela Tabb, also gave her advice to the 21-year-old Grimsby potter, Carrington. Tabb admitted it is very difficult for new players to mold themselves into the new atmosphere especially when they
see world class players playing in front of them. They get confused but on the same note she advised Carrington take it all as a learning curve.
"It's very difficult for the new players. Many players have struggled – it's very difficult to stay on. You just have to try to learn as much as you can and not get too stressed if the results don't come,” said Tabb.
Only the future will tell if Carrington heeds the advice of these veteran players and improves his game.
