Previously, Williams faced and defeated a conventional challenger, the adroit Groth, who served from the right hand but at times returned using her left one.
Just after a time period of 60 minutes when the Williams match concluded, Henin and Clijsters confronted each other which were their twenty fifth meeting on the court. According to Henin, Clijsters became more dangerous as the match proceeded and it was not easy to handle her game.
