Clijsters breezes through Wimbledon second round

Kim Clijsters has followed fellow Belgian comeback queen Justine Henin into the third round at Wimbledon, clinching a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Karolina Sprem in her second round match.

Clijsters had billed the match as a “very tricky one”, but it did not pan out that way for the eighth seed who took another step towards winning her second Grand Slam title in part two of her career with another commanding performance in SW19, wrapping up victory in one hour and 13 minutes.

However in other results early on day three, Vera Dushevina, the player who knocked French Open champion Francesca Schiavone out in the first round at the All England Club has herself been shown the door in the second round with Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova winning their match on court twelve 6-3, 6-4.

Joining Dushevina on the sidelines is Shahar Peer, the 13th seed defeated by Germany’s Angelique Kerber in three sets. While Peer won the first set, her 54th ranked opponent bounced back to take the next two, and take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to equal her best performance at a Grand Slam.
