  1. Condoms are a good start to reduce the human footprint !

  2. You can't protect it as such, but there's a ton of study ongoing there and worldwide, and a growing sense of urgency in addressing the matter before global climate changes induced by human activity becomes self-reinforcing and impossible to stop. Permafrost loss is significant in ways that go far beyond local real estate losses.  It acts as a repository for greenhouse gases.  There's a good chance that these gases will be released into the atmosphere as the climate warms.

U.S. efforts are underway, but the current administration has not embraced the issue since it is absorbed so completely with the war in Iraq.  But worldwide, measures are being implemented as part of the Kyoto accord.  Hopefully such measures will help to slow the tide of change.

Check the site below.  There's some good information to be found there.

  3. Nothing needs to be done.

The Earth will warm or cool as it always has.  David Whitehouse a well known British Astronomer and author of "biography of the Sun" says that the Sun is the dominate driver of our climate.  He also says we are emerging from a period of high sun spot  and cosmic ray activity  and an unusual pattern of solar magnetism.  He says temperatures did rise from 1970 until the late 1990's but have been rather flat for over a decade.   According to the US  United States' National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration the weather in 2007 was unchanged from 2006 or from any year in the past decade.

NASA recently announced that changes in the Arctic Ice pack are the result of normal cycles and not Global Warming.

A startling new revelation from the UN's International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) blows apart the myth of scientific unanimity. New information suddenly revealed by the IPCC, apparently to preempt embarrassing disclosures under Freedom of Information laws, shows that significant numbers of the panel of 2,500 climate scientists -- usually described as "unanimous" in their support of man-made global warming -- have registered serious concerns, which the IPCC serially rejects even while claiming a "consensus". It is becoming obvious that this climate-change consensus is a journalistic fiction.

  4. There is nothing which mankind could do to alter any climate change.

As far as Antarctica is concerned, it is extremely unlikely that it would ever revert to its previous 'temperate climate' since it is now isolated from any other landmass and is situated on the south pole.

Warmer ocean currents from the tropics are no longer able to circulate around the continent since the final landmass broke away from the continent.

There was a very good documentary I heard a few weeks ago on the BBC World Service which explained all of this.

I just now tried to find that program and was not able to do so.

If someone does know of that program, and can supply the link I would be most grateful, and it should be posted for viewers.

  5. You need to put a few ice cream containers full of water into your freezer.

Then when they're frozen crush up the ice and put it into your toilet and flush the ice down.

This way you'll be cooling down the ocean and helping to protect Antarctica!

  6. Probably nothing, because there is probably nothing that can be done. Has there ever been an Ozone layer over Antarctica?

Without even thinking about i seem to be doing my bit, having spent the last 50+ yrs. re-cycling or re-using (a concept that was the norm 50 yrs ago, e.g. beer was bought by the jug, soft drinks supplied in gallon jars, milk in urns, etc.).

Building furniture, painting sculpting making musical instruments etc.from whatever, wood, steel, glass, leather, coathangers etc. Planted (with a friend) over 450 trees, designed domestic hydro-electric power systems, used compost heaps, pigs (lots of heat from pigs, all property housing 10+ should have one) incinerators/fires to heat ponds (the Koi or trout grow faster).

    Whenever viable, don't demolish, dismantle.

i am presently setting up a self funding mental health/community creative arts centre with a very strong re-cycling ethos.

In my view where does it stop, or how and when does it start? and who is actually doing any thing to help.

I personally think that this 'climate change' is merely an overture for the next and inevitable Ice Age, and all of the above have been done and will be done (on Earth as it is in Heaven) purely for Fun &Money. After all, why wait 'til your dead to enter Paradise.

  7. Nothing is done yet..

  8. It amazes me that people still believe that Climate Change is not happening or that human industrial activity (releasing greenhouse gases) is not the primary cause.

Thousands of scientists at the IPCC from countries across the planet have spent almost 20 years meticulously proving this fact. They won the Nobel peace prize for goodness sake!

The only way to protect Antarctica (and teh rest of the planet and future generations) is to slow and stop humanity's influence on climate change. That will require MAJOR reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, which come from our cars, our factories, our dirty coal fired power plants, methane from food in landfills (compost it instead), methane from cows (they cause more emissions than cars since we have so many cows due to our insatiable desire for beef), deforestation (the trees help absorb the CO2, but places like the rainforests are being cut down to make room for cattle grazing and growing biofuels, which by the way are nearly as bad as gasoline in terms of pollution but are worse because they are creating food shortages and huge hikes in grain prices in countries that cannot afford this - so they might go hungry).. etc, etc..

We need to embrace sustainable products. We need to produce our energy with wind, sun, wave and geothermal. We need to drive less and stop over heating or over cooling our homes. We need to recycle everything.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE NEED TO STOP CONSUMING SO MUCH!

Everything you buy and consume requires precious resouces and energy to make.

Disposable objects make no sense. REDUCE and REUSE

Did you know that IN NATURE , there is NO SUCH THING AS WASTE? NO such thing! It is all a natural cycle and everything is used, every step of the way.

Humans invented the concept of waste. We need to eliminate that concept.

  9. Climate change happens, don't know what to tell you.  Can't stop the environment from running its course.

  10. what has been done is an impotant question but not than ---What have YOU DONE?..... well now -a -days its an important issue and govt. is trying to minimize the effect of global warming'coz depletition of ozone and melting of icecaps is somehow related to global warming........we can try to cool the heating zone but can't directly order the ice caps to slow down...

  11. Cutting down of emissions.

    new regulations.

    harsher recycling laws.

but just go to these fine websites, they will answer any of your questions:

    good luck with your research

  12. There is nothing to protect, its a proven natural cycle. Each issue Al Gore made has been disproven by the scientist. What need to be looked at is getting off oil. It will take time but the clock is running

  13. Perhaps its too late to do anything.but we can prolong the life span

  14. more people are working to stop global warming

  15. We could not destroy Antarctica if we tried. It is starting to get so cold there that the polar bears will soon go to sleep.

  16. Little to nothing is currently being done.  When most of California and Manhattan are underwater the bulk of the U.S. population MIGHT start to believe that there is something to be concerned about.

  17. why? the ice in anarctica is thickening

  18. guess what?

    global warming is not real.

  19. they are trying to have people buy hybrids and switch to florescent light bulbs

  20. OK, global warming is a myth. explain to me what caused the climate to change millions of years ago without humans there to "pollute"?

  21. Nothing from the American government. The bush administration doesn't care. But in European governments a lot.

  22. try blackout, plant trees, control the fear of dying, get united, get more serious into this matter, create awareness, each one -think of some remedy.control the emission of chlorine, use user-friendly devices

  23. People are doing all they can to stop global warming, and my mom's friend is getting solar water heaters for her pool. So I think that people are doing alot. If you ever search solar panels on the internet, and you see all the solar panels, those are actualy there!

  24. lots of research this year (international polar year);

the antarctic treaty protects against military and commercial use, mining etc. (hasnt stopped u.s. building a huge road up

to their camp at the pole though).

new regulations about to be agreed for tourists, the biggest danger to antarctic ecosystem immediately is alien species brought in on peoples clothes.
