Question:

Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro?

I am planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro within the next 2 years. Im just graduating college (hence have no money) but I want to make my first legit vacation be something extreme and have always had my sights set on Mt. Kilimanjaro. If anyone has climbed it, I would like to know what it was like and if you have any advice.

If you haven't climbed it but still want to offer your thoughts on the matter, please do so!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Sounds like a great trip.

Ive never climbed it, but I did a lot of research into climbing it a while back. Basically, the first thing you need to remember is this: A higher proportion of people fail to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro than do Mt. Everest.

So, taking that into account, it's clear that it's going to be one h**l of a tough climb.

The best thing to do talk to other travellers on who they used as guides to get to the summit. You need a guide, and they're everywhere in Kenya, but the problem is, a lot of them dont know what they're doing and are unsafe. Talk to other travellers about who they'd recomend and contact them. You need a guide that will encourage you to reach the top, but wont force you up there, if you end up suffering too much from altitude sickness.
