I have a port a cath and it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth and i want to know if is a side effect

  1. No, it's not known to cause taste disturbances but it can cause nausea, vomiting, esophagitis and/or gastritis (irritation/inflammation of the esophagus and the stomach) which have been associated with an unpleasant taste in the mouth.


  2. Quite often after flushing port a caths, I have been told by patients that they have a strange, metallic taste in their mouths. I have always thought it was due to the NS or Heparin used to flush the line. Try infusing it a little slower. That might help. I hope you are well soon.
