Clint Bowyer fastest in practice for the OneMain Financial 200 – NASCAR news
Clint Bowyer continued his recent run of form as he lead the rest of the pack in practice for the OneMain Financial 200 at the Dover International Speedway.
Bowyer seems to have put last weekend’s heartache at Sylvania 300 behind him as he looks to finish the season on a high. Bowyer clocked in at a speed of 151.299 mph in the practice session and looks strong for the race.
Kasey Kahne is another driver who seems to be hitting the right note at the end. His current team, Red Bull Racing are set to quit operations after this season but Kahne already has a new job with Hendrick Motorsports from next season. With the pressure
off him for the season, he is showing what he is capable of and was second fastest in the practice session.
The 2010 Nationwide champion Brad Keselowski won the last Nationwide race at Chicagoland and will be looking for a repeat at Dover as he warms up for Sunday’s Chase. He clocked in the third fastest time in the practice.
Carl Edwards, also looking to get some exposure to the track before the Chase, finished fourth with Trevor Bayne and Ryan Truex ranking at fifth and sixth respectively.
However, none of the drivers in the top 5 are in the running for the Nationwide Series championship.
Overall points’ leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be happy with his performance as he raced in at 7th three places ahead of nearest challenger Elliott Sadler who finished 10th.
Sadler is 14 points behind Stenhouse and will be looking to improve his performance for the qualifying session and the race. With only 6 races left, Sadler cannot afford to fall further behind to Stenhouse.
Reed Sorenson is 47 points behind Stenhouse and has a long shot at winning the Series. However, he will need to make massive improvements as he looked off pace in the practice session, finishing 17th.
The qualifying for the OneMain Financial will start at 1:30pm Eastern Time (ET) while the main race is scheduled to start at 2:00pm ET on Saturday.
