Clint Hurdle looks at a new exciting adventure with Pittsburgh Pirates
After 18 years of losing the Major League Baseball challenge, the Pittsburgh Pirates decided to leave out John Russell from the management chair and sign someone, who, would take the club to new heights.
In their bid for a top manager, the club signed Clint Hurdle from the Texas Rangers’ coaching staff room.
The 53 year-old manager is more than excited to lead the charge for the team as the 2011 season is about to kick off in the coming days. There has been a show of support from fans as their support for National Football club, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the
National Hockey side, Pittsburgh Penguins, is continuing to rise in recent days.
"The one point that I continue to share with everybody here is that as an outsider looking in, this organization has always intrigued me", Hurdle said. "For 10 years in the '70s the Pirates franchise was one of the jewels of Major League Baseball. I got
to see a lot of Pirates baseball, a lot of Pirates players".
Clint Hurdle continued to talk about the Pirates as he expressed his concern about the legacy left behind by the organization. He told reporters that the history for the past 18 seasons had vanished.
For him this was no more a better coaching opportunity than any other, given the amount of responsibilities being tied down in Pittsburgh.
Clint had kicked off his managing career with the Colorado Rockies in 2002. Hurdle wasted no time in comparing the two sides, given their dearth of wins.
The Rockies were a club that needed a generous push as the team availed 90 wins and 73 defeats in 2007. The team was also able to reach the World Series, as well.
"There's a lot of common fabric here", Hurdle said. "The Pirates stage is similar to where the Rockies were in 2005. We had a core group, we had to improve off the mound, we had to catch it. This is a fan base that's so hungry like they were in Colorado,
but with so much more tradition".
The fans are looking to back the Pirates up in their bid for the new season. The National League Central division is already jam packed with clubs that are hungry for a spot in the playoffs. Will Clint be able to pull off a miracle or will the Pirates close
in on a 19th season loss?
