I picked AP up in the 1st round at 5th pick (passing tds are 6 pts so qbs went early) So was that dumb of me to get Portis mid 2nd round over Reggie Wayne?? Cause now my receivers are Colston and Jennings. ???

  1. First off, I suspect you chose Portis when you did because it seemed like he was great value in the mid 2nd round. Without knowing how many teams are in your league I would have to guess that you were right.

Secondly, you need to look at who your second RB would have been if you'd have picked Wayne second. It seems a reasonable guess on my part that if QBs went early there was a big time run on RBs in the second and third rounds as teams tried to scramble to make up for not getting a good solid #1 RB. If I'm right then your second RB would have been a significant downgrade over Portis. Maybe to the tune of Ernest Graham or Jamal Lewis?

If you compare Portis' projected numbers against let's say Lewis' and then make the same comparison between Wayne and Colston. I think you'll see you made out better by drafting Portis.

It's valuable to note that on CBSSports, which is where I play, they have players ranked as such.  Portis (#6 RB), Graham (#13 RB), Lewis (#15 RB), Wayne (#5 WR), and Colston (#6 WR).

Just by those numbers you made out fantastically by drafting Portis instead of Wayne. Of course only time will really tell. Projections are just guesses and injuries can change the entire scope of your season but based on preseason speculation, you made the right decision.

  2. i hate to say it, but you made the wrong choice.  Portis has been almost a let down and Reggie Wayne is on pace for an amazing season.  Especially with Manning throwing to him.  hopefully AP will pick up the slack

  3. If you still ended up with Colston and Jennings I think you did fine.  Portis will be in a revamped offense this year, which will stretch the field more with long, downfield passes.  That should open things up for the running game, and Portis should have a real good season.  With the way RB's get injured in the NFL, you can't have too much depth @ RB.

EDIT - btw, if you got AP with pick # FIVE, you got maybe the steal of your draft right there.  I'd be happy if I was you.

  4. Not dumb at all.  Portis has more value than Wayne since RBs are key to a successful FFB team, and you have two stud RBs.  Very good move on your part.  I usually pick RB, RB, RB, QB, then a WR.  You can always get a WR off the wire later,  but RBs have the quickest drop off in talent in the player pool.  Having 2 studs and a solid sub are crucial. At least that's been my experience.

  5. yeah you prolly made a bad pick, cuz portis will be a bust, and you gotta remember if marvin harrison's injury doesn't go well then reggie wayne will get the ball a lot this year
