Clinton Portis questionable for game against the Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis talked with reporters on Thursday about the possibility of coming back to the Redskins lineup when his team takes on the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday 15, November.
Portis said that his groin injury, which isn't allowing him to make the type of runs he wants and has forced him to miss four games, is still "real sore", and he is determined to not do any further damage to the groin by returning too quickly.
"When I step back on the field, I want to be healthy enough to carry this team for the long run."
Portis only has 49 carries this season for 195 yards and two touchdowns, and hasn't played since the Redskins beat the Eagles 17-12 during week four.
Portis' replacement over the last four games, Ryan Torain, has himself been suffering from an injury to his hamstring and has been limited in practice recently. After running for over 100 yards in two consecutive starts, Torain was held to just 10 yards
on nine carries in the Redskins most recent 37-25 loss to the Detroit Lions two weeks ago.
It was in that game, against the Lions, that Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb was benched toward the end of the game by his coach Mike Shanahan.
When asked to comment on the turbulent situation in Washington, Portis said, "I've been experiencing that for years now. It's kind of shocking to see somebody else go through what I've been going through for years."
The Redskins have allowed return specialist Chad Simpson, and newly signed James Davis, to take reps at practice, as reported by
The Washington Post on Wednesday.
If neither Portis nor Torain are able to go on Sunday, 14 November, it could be one of the two of them running the ball for the Redskins. Neither one has taken a snap all season.
