IBO light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver (27-4, 19 KOs) claimed the IBF title held by Clinton Woods (41-4-1, 25 KOs) with a one-sided unanimous decision on Saturday night at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. There was little drama in the bout as Tarver systematically outpointed Woods, but never came close to stopping him. Woods' performance was disappointing as he never got untracked and rarely was in position to inflict damage. Scores were 116-112, 117-111, 119-109.

I must admit, I would like to see Clinton Woods take this one, I have never been a big Tarver fan, his wins over Roy Jones Jr. are the only real accomplishment in an otherwise mediocre career.  Clinton Woods will be difficult for Tarver, but not impossible.  The trouble Glen Johnson gave Tarver and the loss to a smaller Hopkins exposed Tarver for the average fighter that he is.  It is career fight for Woods, and I hope he rises to the challenge.

I am picking Antonio Tarver to win in an upset.  He may be trailing on points but I am picking the Magic Man to come from behind and win a world championship one more time before he retires (which I think he should do, he seems to lack the fire these days).  Still, I believe he has enough left to beat an overrated Clinton Woods.

Tarver's home base is Tampa. I gotta pull for my hometown fighter. My decision is based on that plus the fact that I workout at the same gym he does. I've seen him putting in the extra effort during training to get ready for this fight. Tarver by decision.
