Clipping an overgrown beak?

Hey. In a few days I'll be getting a parrotlet from a local breeder, and since the little birdie has an overgrown beak (the bottom is over the top of the beak) I wanted to get people suggestions to clipping a birds beak, would it be better to file it down, and are there ways to "correct" this defect?

I really love her, and I named her Peawea... I'm buying her for cheap BECAUSE of this defect, please, help!

  1. Overgrown beaks can be a symptom of illness so it would be best to get her in for a checkup. Because the beak has a lot of blood vessels and the bird is so small it would be best to have a vet show you how to trim it even though you have experience with other birds.

  2. Aviarn veterinarians have special braces to fix this problem, it takes time and patience but they can do it. Do not attempt to clip or file your birds beak by yourself!!!!!!!! this could be dangerous to the bird and possibly you too, because the beak is alive and DOES feel pain so the bird might bite you.

  3. This can lead to death if the beak is not fixed

  4. See your avian vet...and do NOTHING with that beak until you do! If you love her, get her the care she needs. kjl

  5. i have 5 cockatiels. one had that problem.Take her to petco or other pet store that suplies birds and theylle do it for free. just ask them a the cashier! it's better if a pro does it. you dont want to have your bird with a deformed beak. Good Luck with her.
