  1. Depends upon the frequency of your cut. I find if I do it with my rotary mower every 5 days during the growing season then it is best to allow it to remain on the lawn. However, if the grass is relatively long then I rake it off.

  2. As a landscaper my experience is to leave the clippings on the lawn during the rapid growing season if you mow regularly and collect the clippings for composting when the weather is cooler and the sun lower.

Leaving the clippings retains nutrients and moisture, reducing the need for fertilizers and watering. Anything that reduces cost and energy has got to be a good thing.

  3. We started leaving the lawn clippings on the grass a few months ago and our grass started looking really good, but we started to get those really huge mushroom/toadstools overnight. I did a little research and I found that mushrooms thrive on the decomposing grass clippings and there is no effective way to get rid of the mushrooms except to not leave the clippings down. We stopped using the mulching blade and soon the mushrooms were gone.

  4. Normally yes.  If you have areas that build up, go over that area again and mulch them a little finer.  You are putting nutrients back into the ground instead of throwing them in the landfills.

  5. I'd say don't leave the clippings on the lawn because they restrict the grass growth underneath sometimes turning them brown.

  6. I've heard so, but it is pending upon the weather conditions... and also it is not very appealing to the eye... that's why I just don't leave it.

  7. If it is going to be hot then leaving the lawn cuttings on will help the grass to recover from being cut and also retain moisture. Conversely if it is going to be damp then the cuttings will start to rot and mould, killing off the grass below

  8. What type lawn do you have?..On some this is beneficial..on others not so good.If you must leave the clippings use a mulching blade on your mower, this will help in mulching up the grass.I never use a catcher or rake after mowing but use a mulching blade and lawn is beautiful. How often you mow would be a factor as well.
