Clive Lloyd and Sunil Gavaskar debate over ICC ban on Runner option for Batsmen
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clive-Hubert-Lloyd-c51327 has supported the ban on runners for injured batsman.
According to, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 there should be a balance between ball and bat, which will make the game fair for both.
"If a bowler is injured, you don't get somebody else to come and bowl for him, he has to go off. So, if a batsman is injured, he has to go off too. Why should he be allowed to bat using another batsman to run for him? That is giving him an unfair advantage".
The 66-year old, Lloyd represented his country in 110 Test matches, scored 7515 runs with an average of 46.67, and smashed 19 centuries.
He played 87 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the Caribbean side, made 1977 runs with an average of 39.54.
The British Guyana born batsman has been considered as one of the greatest players in Caribbean cricket history.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided during the annual meeting of its Chief Executives' Committee, not to facilitate batsman with the option to bat with a runner in case of injury.
Meanwhile, the former Indian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s decision in this regard.
"I would also like to suggest that there should be no water for bowlers at the boundary end. They bowl one over and come to the boundary where energy drinks are waiting for them", Gavaskar cited.
According to him, if batsman cannot avail runner, then ICC should ban drink breaks during the match, and there should not be an option of substituting fielders.
"There should not be a substitute fielder when a regular player goes off the field. If a fielder gets injured or has cramps, he should either go off the field or stay there. That ways it balances out everything and the batting side is not the only one affected",
he added.
Gavaskar played 108 ODIs for his country, scored 3092 runs with an average of 35.13, and interestingly just smashed one century.
He participated in 125 test matches from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, made 10122 runs with an average of 51.12, and knocked 34 hundreds.
