http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clive-Hubert-Lloyd-c51327 announces ICC’s ODI team of the year
The International Cricket Council’s (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s) One Day International (ODI) team of the year has been announced today in London, England on Monday, September 12, 2011.
Four Indian players have been named in the team with MS Dhoni named as the skipper of the side. The players selected are: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 and Zaheer Khan.
Apart from these players, Sri Lanka’s pace ace http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 has been named as the 12th man in the team.
The Chairman of the ICC Awards selection panel Clive Lloyd stated, “This has been an outstanding year for 50-over cricket. I think everyone saw in the ICC Cricket World Cup how exciting this format can be.”
The West Indian great further added, “The ODI team of the year reflects the success of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, the man of
the match in the final, whilst fellow finalists http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 has three players in the side.”
The inclusion of four Indian players in the side will bring some joy to the disappointed fans of the team. The Men in Blue have struggled to make an impression on the British soil, losing the Test, ODI and the Twenty20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
However, the team has one more game remaining in the series and today’s awards might just give them the confidence to start winning matches again.
On the other hand, the Sri Lankan team has also been struggling to perform in their home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The team managed to win the Twenty20 series, but lost the ODI series to the Kangaroos. They also struggled to perform in the longest version
of the game and are not in a very good position at the moment.
Although the players selected in the ODI team have performed exceptionally well throughout the year, one player would have been disappointed to miss out. South Africa’s opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HM-Amla-c1557 deserved a sot in the team, as he averaged closer to 100 in the past
year.
